We know it can also be one of the most stressful times. If you're usually the group leader, let us help you find the best deals on hotels to stay in (because we know there's always that one friend who's late getting back to you on booking), fun and/or relaxing activities outside the convention, and awesome food to try.
That's right; We're congoers, too. (That's "con-goers", not "congo-ers.") Our staff has been to SDCC, NYCC, Anime Expo Los Angeles, PAX West, Anime St. Louis , and more. Whether the con is big or small, we love the rush and are thrilled to offer any help we can to fellow fans.
Is everyone rooming together? Just need to know accommodations and activities for one? Meeting online friends and need back-up plans if things get weird? We can help you plan for the best, worst, and even surprising scenarios. (Perhaps a marriage proposal is in your thoughts!)
There have been times where our congoers missed a midnight laser tag session with Star Fox cosplayers or a comic book signing at a local store. We'll search the surrounding area to see if there are special events happening during your trip and work your favorites in as best we can.
Okay, maybe we don't know Beerus's taste in food exactly, but we can certainly find your favorites near the convention and stay locations. If you're open to trying new stuff, have allergies or special diets, let us know that, too! The prime experience is the con, but good food keeps the tank full.
The con staff is giving you the runaround on parking or you just cannot find where the Animaniacs are going to be for their panel. Some maps are impossible to understand. ("Who designed this?!") We'll do our heckin' best to get the answers you seek.
It may be your thought that telling us you have a large group means we'll try and get you to buy as many hotel rooms as is necessary. Nope. We know saving money's a need for these events. All we nerds need is a place to pass out and get back at it again the next day.
We use Popverse's comprehensive comic convention guide as our... well, guide. We'll email once a month about these upcoming cons and include a way to easily contact us. Let us know if there's another con you want us to keep up on! We'll add it to our list if the stars deem it worthy.
Scenario: You and a couple friends finally got time off work approved and are panicking that you didn't book a hotel room in advance; If it ended up that you couldn't go, you would get no money back from the reservation. But as much as you guys don't want to drive during the convention, you vote to be nearby so you can walk there each day. In total, there are going to be five of you. Cons are expensive (especially 'cause you all want autographs from David Tennant, and the couple is geeking out over both Matt Mercer and Roger Craig Smith), so finding one hotel room you all can squeeze into together was the top idea.
Hotels this late into the game are expensive from the 11th to 14th, and no one wants to stay in a motel. It was one of the three choices you had from your travel agent at Valentine Voyages in order to save the most, but too many of you had a bad experience and preferred a hotel this time. The last two choices? Riviera Hotel South Beach at $1110 total (down from $1356), or 1818 Meridian House Apartments at $859 total (down from $1324). Both are a quick walk down the street to the con, both have kitchens (which is cool, 'cause three of you cook great food and can save that way), and there's floor space to squeeze in the last few people. The Riviera has the most room at 667 sq ft, though, especially with a King bed, but you're also saving an extra $251 if you all can agree to walk carefully around those on the floor at the smaller 538 sq ft room at Meridian House. Both are about the same distance from the con, both have awesome amenities, and both are rated an average of 7.9 in reviews. You opt for the cheapest so everyone pays their share of $172 for all four nights, and it leaves plenty of savings to get anything extra from Artist's Alley and any quick food during your escapades. No one has any intensely dramatic cosplays for this, so it works out!
Scenario: Finally, you and your two best friends can meet up at Portland for a con to meet each other in person and have fun. You've been online friends for the better part of a decade now, and no one has had a the money to get together at the same time until now. Getting one hotel room together was perfectly fine with all of you (it's not like you haven't seen pictures of each other irl), and thankfully there was a room left at the convention rate. After grabbing the hotel, you look at the price of flights and panic at the idea of how expensive it might be. You could drive; It'd take you eight hours to drive to Portland from your home near Sacramento, CA. But flying would be way cheaper. You hope.
The hotel was booked for the 26th to 29th, that way everyone had extra time to hang out before and after the con to see the sights together. The cheapest flight you can find on Priceline is $167 (so long as you avoid Spirit airlines), but you hoped for a little cheaper. After consulting an agent at Valentine Voyages, they found you a much cheaper flight at $129. There was a fee added on for flight research, but it's only $19, so you're still saving money on your flight. Bonus: They also found you a midsize rental car for $282.32 including the taxes and fees, which is way better than the $330.80—without insurance—you found on Priceline and the $319 with insurance you found on Turo which did not include their hidden taxes and fees. Considering you're used to driving in busier areas, you opt to be the main driver for everyone and split the cost between the three of you at $94.11 (or an even $94, really). You're over 25, so that surprise fee won't wait for you, either. Even if insurance isn't included, you're happy to grab it at the counter at that price. Besides, if you're really curious, your agent could call ahead and ask about the insurance cost; You don't want to drive in Portland without it!
